Russian aluminium giant UC Rusal announced last week its inclusion V.E’s (Vigeo Eiris) list of 100 Best Emerging Market performers, measuring various sustainability criteria.
The list evaluates over 800 companies across three dozen industries, including building materials, telecommunications, and mining and minerals. The companies are evaluated across six areas: Environment, Human Rights, Human Resources, Community Involvement, Business Behavior, and Corporate Governance.
Top scores from firms in 31 countries are included on the list. Rusal is the biggest low-carbon aluminium producer on this year’s listing.
Rusal’s chief sustainability officer Irina Bakhtina said in a press release that its inclusion on the list is a testament to the firm’s commitment to sustainability.
“We are proud to be repeatedly listed on V.E’s influential ranking of the Best Emerging Market Performers for ESG globally. RUSAL’s presence amongst the top 100 companies reflects the continued progress we have made to integrate sustainability across our business and to lead the efforts for aluminium industry decarbonization. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a key strategic goal of RUSAL and we are committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.”
