French firm REEL International SAS said this week that it has purchased GE Steam Power’s Aluminum AQCS (Air Quality Control Systems) Technology in Norway.
REEL says the deal also includes the technical know-how that was developed by FLAKT, ABB, and ALSTOM Environment. No financial details of the deal were divulged by the firm.
GE Steam Power’s Aluminum AQCS Technology is used throughout the aluminium value chain. Among the areas it is used in is Potline Gas Treatment Centre (GTC) and Bake Ovens Fume Treatment Centre (FTC). This includes implementation of certain heat exchangers and reduced-sized GTC and FTC applications.
REEL will also acquire corporate relationships already established and certain portions of its intellectual property, including GTC, FTC, HEX/AHEX, AIFEED, ABART, and pre-reactor.
This purchase comes on the heels of the closure of Metso Outotec’s aluminium assets, including green anode plant, anode rodshop, and casting equipment. REEL operates five other businesses in the aluminium sector under the rubric of through NKM Noell Special Cranes, REEL Alesa, REEL COH, and REEL Möller. The firm says the recent purchase activities are meant to shore up its position as a leading technology provider to the worldwide aluminium industry.
