Oman Aluminium Rolling Company Joins ASI As Production And Transformation Member

The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) announced last week the inclusion of new Production and Transformation member Oman Aluminium Rolling Company (OARC).

Chartered in 2011, OARC is a green field aluminium rolling mill in Oman. The plant in the Sohar Industrial Estate has a nameplate capacity of 140 thousand metric tons of rolled aluminium per year, but it is capable of bumping capacity to 200 thousand metric tons per year at a later date.

The plant is operated by a workforce of around 300 and serves the building and construction, transportation, packaging, consumer durables, energy, and HVAC sectors for customers on three continents.

Peter Rijkoort, CEO OARC, said in a press release that joining with ASI shows the firm’s resolve for sustainable production.

“Joining ASI emphasizes Oman and OARC’s strong commitment to responsible operations and to work together with the other members in this community to contribute to sustainability and transparency throughout the aluminium value chain.”

The ASI is a worldwide organization dedicated to setting industrial standards and certifications in the aluminium industry. The association brings together the various stakeholders in the aluminium industry in order to achieve objectives including sustainable production methods, material chain-of-custody procedures, recycling, social impacts related to aluminium production, and production standards.
