American rolled and recycled aluminium firm Novelis Inc. announced a US$4.5-million investment in upgrading its facility in Warren, Ohio.
Though the firm’s press release did not go into detail, Novelis’ plans for the plant in Warren include the installation of cutting-edge technology that will allow the plant to offer its clients greater choice in pretreatments, as well as improvements that are aimed at maximizing operational efficiency and reducing cost.
Plant manager Paul Nelson lauded the investment and the security it provides for operations at his plant.
“We are thrilled to announce this local investment. Due to a steady U.S. can market and Novelis’ strong financial performance across the globe, we are making the investments necessary to sustain our operation here in Warren for many years to come.”
U.S. Representative Tim Ryan (D) praised Novelis’ planned investment in the Warren plant, noting the positive impact it will likely have to manufacturing in the region.
“I applaud Novelis for making this important investment here in Warren. As Co-Chair of the House Manufacturing Caucus, I know American manufacturing is the backbone of our economy, and I am committed to promoting and expanding this vital industry. Novelis is proof that innovative manufacturing technologies are growing right here in the Mahoning Valley and that our region is a great place to do business. I am proud to work with them and I look forward to continuing to bring business and investments into our community.”
Ohio’s senior U.S. senator Sherrod Brown (D) noted the investment as representing an ongoing commitment by the Atlanta firm to operations in Ohio.
“Novelis’ investment in Ohio is a testament to the strength of Ohio’s workforce. These planned improvements signal the company’s commitment to Warren and the women and men who work at the plant.”
The plant, which currently employs 75 individuals, applies various coatings to rolled aluminium sheet that is subsequently used to produce aluminium beverage can tops. The plant coats sufficient aluminium sheet to produce over one billion beverage can lids each month.
Novelis is a subsidiary of Mumbai’s Hindalco Industries Ltd. Based in Atlanta, the firm accounts for almost half of Hindalco’s consolidated revenue. The world’s largest recycler of aluminium, Novelis conducts operations in ten different countries, employs around twelve thousand people, and reported US$10 billion in revenue for the most recent fiscal year.
