Luoyang Wanji Aluminium Achieves ASI Certification

The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) announced yesterday the certification of Luoyang Wanji Aluminium Processing Co., Ltd.’s rolling facility in Luoyang, People’s Republic of China against its ASI Performance Standard.

The plant produces foils used in several industries, including building supply, communications, electronics, and many other sectors. Activity at the rolling facility consists largely of rolling, straightening, trimming, annealing, slitting, and packaging aluminium foil.

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI hailed the firm’s accomplishment in a related press release.

“ASI congratulates Luoyang Wanji Aluminium Processing Co., Ltd. on the Performance Standard certification of their rolling operations. The certification demonstrates the company’s engagement in applying sustainability principles to their production activities for aluminium foil, which is a key input to so many downstream applications. More generally, we are pleased to note that China-based ASI Members currently represent nearly a quarter of the 47 members certified against the ASI Performance Standard and more than a third of the 20 members certified against the Chain of Custody Standard, which shows that ASI’s engagement in China is gaining momentum.”

ASI’s Performance Standard is the product of consultations with a multitude of stakeholders throughout the aluminium value chain, which ASI asserts is the sole comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative in the aluminium sector. The certifications, which each last for three years, were audited by China Quality Mark Certification Group.

Jun Wu, General Manager of Luoyang Wanji Aluminium Processing Co., Ltd., noted the importance of the certification to the firm and its operations.

“We are pleased to have been certified to the ASI Performance Standard and thank ASI for recognizing our work in the responsible aluminium supply chain. Obtaining ASI Performance Standard certification will provide more sustainable development for our aluminum products. It is also the only way for us to realize sustainable development. Through ASI, we are honoring our commitment to environmentally, socially and economically responsible production, we look forward to working with more ASI members to build a responsible and sustainable aluminum supply chain.

The ASI is a worldwide organization dedicated to setting industrial standards and certifications in the aluminium industry. The association attempts to bring together the various stakeholders in the aluminium industry in order to achieve objectives including sustainable production methods, material chain-of-custody procedures, recycling, social impacts related to aluminium production, and production standards.
