Australian resource firm FYI Resources Ltd. and Alcoa of Australia disclosed results of their ongoing collaboration to produce high-purity alumina last week, noting better-than-expected results from the joint venture.
According to a statement released by FYI, the testing produced alumina with a purity of 99.998 percent. The result was better than expected, noted the firm. FYI said the better results were a product of alterations to the flowsheet and the refining of a different feedstock than had been used in prior attempts.
Roland Hill, FYI’s managing director, said that these encouraging results are a testament to the
“The achievement continues to demonstrate the outstanding qualities of our flowsheet in delivering consistent and reliably high quality HPA product, a key requirement from a customer perspective.”
“FYI is encouraged by the outcomes of the pilot plant and will continue to progress with the development of our HPA strategy and advancing the MoU conditions with Alcoa,” Hill concluded.
Samples from the trial will now be submitted to EAG Laboratories in the United States to undergo more glow discharge mass spectrometry analysis. Samples will also be sent to potential customers for further testing of their own.
