Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. announced yesterday that it set a record last quarter for both production and sales volume of primary aluminium.
In the third quarter Alba smelted a total of 385,396 metric tons of primary aluminium, up by 53 percent on the year from last year’s third-quarter total production of 251,472 metric tons.
Meanwhile, the previous quarter saw Alba sell 376,025 metric tons of product, besting last year’s third-quarter sales volume total of 248,970 metric tons by 51 percent.
Alba’s totals for the first nine months of the year rose as well. The firm increased overall production from 762,952 metric tons to 963,830 metric tons, good for an increase of 26 percent on the year. Alba’s overall sales volume for the first three quarters this year came to 945,067 metric tons, increasing by 26 percent on the year as well over last year’s sales volume of 750,202 metric tons.
Alba’s Acting CEO Ali Al Baqali said the robust results foreshadowed a solid conclusion to the year.
“With the double-digit growth in our Production and Sales’ Volume, we are set for a strong finish to 2019. This year is proving to be transformational for Alba as we will produce 1,350,000 mt for the first-time in history and deliver Line 6 into commercial operations.”
Alba is one of the largest industrial companies in the Middle East and is one of the top 10 largest aluminium producers in the world. Originally incorporated in 1968, the company is based in Bahrain and 84% of its total workforce are Bahraini nationals. It began operations in 1971 with a 120,000 metric ton annual capacity. Modernization bumped the output up to 450,000 metric tons in 1992. In the spring of 2005, Alba opened Line 5, raising output by 860,000 metric tons per year. In 2018 Alba’s smelter produced 1,011,101 metric tons of primary aluminium.
