Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. set a record last year for aluminium sales volume, moving over 1.3 million metric tons of aluminium in 2019.
According to a press release, Alba’s aluminium sales volume rose by one-third over the prior year, reaching a total of 1,350,326 metric tons and establishing a new high-water mark for the firm. Alba’s aluminium production total also rose last year, reaching 1,365,005 metric tons, besting the prior year’s total by 35 percent.
For the year’s closing quarter, Alba sold 405,259 metric tons, rising by 54 percent on the year over last year’s fourth-quarter total of 262,346 metric tons. Production in the quarter totaled 401,175 metric tons, better by 62 percent from last year’s fourth-quarter total of 248,149 metric tons.
Alba’s Acting Chief Executive Ali Al Baqali lauded the hard work of the firm in achieving such stellar results.
“We are pleased to have closed 2019 strong – our operational performance have gone above and beyond our set-targets for the year with Line 6 in full commercial operation. And, this achievement has been made more significant with our remarkable Safety performance of Zero Lost Time Injuries (LTIs) in 2019.”
Alba plans to release its full slate of results on Wednesday.
Alba is one of the largest industrial companies in the Middle East and is one of the top 10 largest aluminium producers in the world. Originally incorporated in 1968, the company is based in Bahrain and 84% of its total workforce are Bahraini nationals. It began operations in 1971 with a 120,000 metric ton annual capacity. Modernization bumped the output up to 450,000 metric tons in 1992. In the spring of 2005, Alba opened Line 5, raising output by 860,000 metric tons per year. In 2018 Alba’s smelter produced 1,011,101 metric tons of primary aluminium.
