Carnegie, Pennsylvania’s Ampco-Pittsburgh Corporation announced yesterday that its subsidiary Union Electric Steel Corporation has come to an agreement with Zhongwang (Yingkou) High Precision Aluminum Industry Co., Ltd (“Zhongwang Aluminum”) to provide rolls for the firm’s new hot rolling mill.
The agreement, which is worth US$4.4 million, will have Union Electric sending Union Electric Åkers forged finishing work rolls to the China Zhongwang subsidiary. The agreement is the product of several successful tests at Zhongwang Aluminum’s plant in Wuqing District, Tianjin Province and will commence in the first months of next year.
Union Electric Steel’s president Rodney Scagline hailed the agreement as a welcome addition to the firm’s book of business.
“The agreement adds another accredited, large new aluminum mill to our customer list. Supplying the rolls needed for this new mill is an encouraging win for us, demonstrating our growing presence among major aluminum rolling mills around the world which require the most demanding, high-quality rolls. We look forward to serving this important customer and to meeting Zhongwang Aluminum’s needs as they evolve in the future.”
Zhongwang Aluminum’s parent company, China Zhongwang Group, has weathered the allegations of shipping fake semis through third-party countries and companies since last summer. The firm has consistently denied any involvement in the alleged scheme. In addition, the United States Department of Justice alleged Zhongwang affiliate Perfectus Aluminum for allegedly evading US$1.5 billion in import duties on aluminium last month. Zhongwang denies any wrongdoing in this instance as well.
